Utthunga launches AI Center of Excellence to Advance Agentic AI Solutions for Industrial Sectors

Bengaluru: Utthunga, a leading provider of product and plant engineering services and industrial solutions, announced the launch of its AI Center of Excellence (CoE) to accelerate the development and deployment of AI solutions for industrial enterprises. The CoE will focus on building industry-specific AI models, autonomous agents, and engineering automation tools, enabling faster time-to-market and smarter, more sustainable plants.

The launch comes amid growing demand from industrial enterprises for domain-centric AI systems. In this context, the CoE will focus on streamlining end-to-end product engineering workflows, enabling faster and more accurate plant engineering, and increasing overall manufacturing efficiency. These solutions will enable up to 30% productivity improvements, a 10% increase in asset utilization, and a 20% reduction in delivery timelines, along with up to 50% faster legacy modernization cycles. The company has also deployed private AI infrastructure to ensure customer data is securely processed.

“Today, industrial enterprises are prioritizing practical, secure, and scalable approaches to adopting AI across environments. From the outset, our approach has been clear – start with domain-centric use cases, and effective AI outcomes will follow. Our goal is to help our customers scale AI responsibly and efficiently, supported by measurable productivity improvements and operational gains. We are also committed to upskilling and cross-skilling engineering talent to meet the demands of an AI-driven industrial era. We are excited to enter this next phase and look forward to the continued support of our customers, partners, and well-wishers as we expand our portfolio of agentic AI services and solutions for the industrial world,” said Karthick Ajjan, AI CoE Leader at Utthunga.

Under the CoE, Utthunga will build a team of 100+ AI experts by the end of the year, with nearly 50+ engineers already trained in building agentic AI systems for industrial environments. The company has launched an industrial knowledge assistant trained on cross-domain industrial data and is working on the creation of an industry-specific Small Language Model (SLM). The team is also initiating global partnerships with universities and startups to support R&D and talent development in the space.

“Traditional AI models often fall short when applied to complex industrial environments, where domain-specific logic, reliability requirements, and specialised workflows are critical,” said Dinesh Thukaram, Chief Solutions Officer, Utthunga. “With multidisciplinary engineering capabilities and specialised domain experts, we are well positioned to bridge this gap. Through this CoE, we aim to help our customers apply AI to improve operational efficiency, reduce engineering cycles, and achieve cost and time savings – maintaining reliability, security, and compliance.”

In parallel, the CoE is also building AI systems across internal functions to streamline workflows, increase productivity, and enable faster project execution. By testing and scaling these systems in-house, the company is developing replicable AI solutions that can be deployed reliably across customer environments

“In industrial product development, there is increasing pressure to innovate faster to build intelligent product, ensuring reliability and compliance. Traditional engineering workflows are often time-intensive and linear, slowing the journey from concept to market-ready products. Our AI Center of Excellence addresses this challenge through AI solutions that accelerate time-to-market, combining domain-rich engineering expertise with secure and scalable AI systems to deliver real business outcomes.”, said Nagesh Shenoy, Chief Technology Officer, Utthunga.

With deep multidisciplinary engineering expertise across plant engineering, product engineering and industrial solutions,  Utthunga’s AI Center of Excellence will prioritize domain-specific AI solutions aligned to outcome-driven, practical industrial use cases. Through this launch, the company aims to become the partner of choice for industrial companies looking to implement secure, scalable AI solutions that deliver measurable business outcomes.
