Taural India and Triveni Engineering Advance Marine Self-Reliance with Fully Indigenised Propulsion Gearbox Development

Pune: In a major step to India’s manufacturing self-reliance, Taural India, one of India’s leading integrated aluminium foundries, has supplied high quality aluminium castings to Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd (TEIL), a diversified industrial conglomerate. Co-designed by TEIL and Taural India, these castings were used by TEIL to manufacture propulsion gearboxes for an Indigenous Patrol Vessels Programme, which has now been successfully delivered. This development marks a significant milestone in the indigenisation of marine propulsion systems and further strengthens the position of both the companies as key contributors to the nation’s advanced marine manufacturing ecosystem.

Under the collaboration, Taural India has successfully developed and supplied 16 complete sets of castings for the project in under five months. Leveraging its aluminium sand-casting expertise, the company refined the casting design, optimized component weight, and ensured structurally sound, defect-free castings with complex internal cavities that meet the stringent strength and performance requirements of this critical marine application.

Talking about the collaboration, Bharat Gite, Managing Director and CEO, Taural India, said, “This collaboration is a moment of immense pride for Taural India, as it showcases our ability to deliver precision-engineered, indigenous solutions for India’s maritime sector. We are deeply grateful to Triveni for placing their trust in us and partnering on this critical development of technology. Our focus has always been on achieving global precision through local engineering, and this project reaffirms that India’s manufacturing ecosystem is capable of creating world-class outcomes.”

Rajiv Rajpal, CEO of Power transmission business, Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd added, “The successful indigenisation of the light-weight propulsion gearboxes marks a significant step in strengthening our contribution to India’s maritime self-reliance. We chose Taural India for their proven expertise in high-precision aluminium sand casting and their ability to deliver large, intricate components that meet the stringent performance standards of marine applications. Their technical capability and adherence to demanding timelines were critical to the success of this project. We are proud to contribute to the Indian maritime sector with a solution that is entirely designed and made in India.”

Taural India has been certified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), affirming its credentials as a qualified and credible component supplier to the marine sector in compliance with stringent global standards. Through this project, TEIL has reinforced its position as a trusted partner in India’s marine manufacturing ecosystem. Together, these achievements underscore the growing sophistication of India’s manufacturing landscape, where collaborations between homegrown engineering leaders are enabling world-class solutions and advancing the nation’s journey towards greater self-reliance.
